2013-S White Mountain Quarter
Representing White Mountain National Forest found mostly in the state of New Hampshire, this quarter contains a reverse design emblematic of the site. The forest was initially created in 1918 and today contains a total of 784,505 acres.
Owing to its many resources available and close proximity to a large population base, White Mountain is one of the most visited units of the National Forest System east of the Mississippi.
2013-S Perry’s Victory Quarter
This quarter represents Perry’s Victory and International Peace Memorial found in the state of Ohio. The site was established to both mark the defeat of British forces by Commodore Oliver Hazard Perry of the United States during the War of 1812 and to also acknowledge the lasting friendship that has occurred between Great Britain and the US since then.
The memorial was established on June 2, 1936 and contains an iconic 352 doric column which is among the tallest monuments in the United States.
2013-S Great Basin Quarter
Shown on the reverse of this quarter is a design emblematic of Great Basin National Park of Nevada. Federal interests in the area began on January 24, 1922 when the Lehmann Caves National Monument was established. That monument was incorporated into the larger national park which was only created in 1986.
In addition to the caves, visitors also find groves of ancient bristlecone pines in the park. Its remote location also makes for excellent star viewing at night owing to very little light pollution in the region.
2013-S Fort McHenry Quarter
Fort McHenry National Monument and Historic Shrine was originally established as a national park in Maryland in 1925. It was re-designated a national monument and historic shrine in 1939 and it is the only location to be called by such a title.
Fort McHenry successfully defended the Baltimore Harbor during the War of 1812 from the British. The viewing of that battle led to Francis Scott Key writing his poem "The Star-Spangled Banner," which eventually went on to become the national anthem of the United States.
2013-S Mount Rushmore Quarter
Established in 1925 before construction on the sculpture even began, a portion of Mount Rushmore National Memorial of South Dakota is featured on the reverse of this quarter dollar. The sculpture was created by Gutzon Borglum and hundreds of additional workers who carved the faces of four former Presidents of the United States into the mountain.
